ANKARA UNIVERSITY CENTER OF WOMEN’S STUDIES REGULATION

CORPORATE AUTHORITIES, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1-Establishment of the Center

KASAUM was established in line with the decision taken at the meeting of the Higher Education Executive Board dated 13/05/1992.

2-Purpose, Scope, Basis and Definitions of the Center

Purpose

The purpose of this Regulation is to organise the procedures and principles regarding the purpose of Ankara University Women’s Studies Research Center (KASAUM), areas of activity, management bodies, duties of management bodies and way of working.

Scope

This Regulation covers the provisions regarding the purpose, activities, management bodies, duties of the management bodies and way of working of the Ankara University Women’s Studies Research Center, which was established affiliated with Ankara University.

Rest

This Regulation has been prepared based on subparagraph (2) of clause (d) of the first paragraph of Article 7 and Article 14 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547 dated 4/11/1981.

Definitions

  1. a) Advisory Board: Ankara University Women’s Studies Research Central Advisory Board,
  2. b) Center: Ankara University Women’s Studies Research Center,
  3. c) Director: Director of the Center,
  4. d) Rector: Rector of Ankara University,
  5. e) University: Ankara University,
  6. f) Board of Directors: The Board of Directors of the Center.

3-Managing Bodies and Duties

Governing bodies of the Center

(1) The governing bodies of the Center are:

  1. a) Director.
  2. b) Board of Directors.
  3. c) Advisory Board.

 

Director

Director is appointed by the Rector from among the university faculty Members for a period of two years. The Director whose term has expired can be reappointed using the same method.

The Director appointed chooses two university faculty Members as assistant Directors and submits it to the Rector for approval for appointment. Deputy Directors carry out tasks assigned by the Director. The duties of deputy Directors end when the term of office of the Director expires. Deputy Members attend Board meetings without voting rights.

 

Duties of the Director

  1. a) To represent the Center.
  2. b) To chair the Board of Directors and Advisory Board.
  3. c) To implement the decisions taken by the Board of Directors.
  4. d) To report to the Rector about the activities of the Center at the end of each year.
  5. e) Present annual activity plan and financial forecast approved by the Board of Directors

to the Rector.

  1. f) To call the Board of Directors and Advisory Board to meetings when necessary.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors consists of five Members in total. One is the Director and other four Members are selected from among the faculty Members and appointed by the Rector.

The term of office of the Board Members is two years. Expired Members can be reinstated. A new member is appointed to replace the member who leaves before the end of her/his term, to complete the remaining term.

The Board of Directors meets at least twice a year under the chairmanship of the Director. It may meet when necessary, upon the call of the Director. The Board of Directors convenes by absolute majority and decisions are taken by majority vote .In case of equality of votes, the decision was taken in favor of the Director’s vote.

Duties of the Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is the decision-making body of the Center and its duties are as follows:

  1. To prepare the Center’s research, application and training program and annual activity plan and to make decisions on related issues.
  2. To prepare the financial forecast for the next year.

 

Advisory Board and its Duties

It consists of seven people, chaired by the director, who have done or are working on studies related to the field of gender studies.

Members of the Advisory Board are appointed by the Rector for a period of two years upon the recommendation of the Director. Members from outside the University can also be elected to the Advisory Board.

The Advisory Board meets at least once a year, on a date to be determined by the Director, when deemed necessary by the Board of Directors. There is no majority requirement to hold a meeting.

The Advisory Board makes suggestions and contributions about the work of the Center.

4- Purpose and Fields of Activity of the Center

Purpose of The Center

The aim of the Center is; to carry out women and gender studies in academic units affiliated with the university.

Activity Areas of the Center

In line with its purpose, the Center carries out studies in the following areas:

  1. To assist graduate students of the Department of Women’s Studies in their education and training in line with the purpose of the Center and to enable applied studies that will contribute to the solution of gender issues.
  2. To publish scientific journals on women’s studies and gender equality.
  3. To try to produce policies and solutions against gender-based discrimination and domestic violence within the framework of domestic Justice.
  4. To propose a list of investigators consisting of experts in gender equality to be assigned to investigations regarding sexual harassment or violence against university Members; providing legal, medical and psychological support to victims.
  5. To organize certificate programs for experts, researchers and students working in various professional fields that focus on gender equality.
  6. To organize an article award competition for studies that are based on the data of an original research in the field of gender and contribute to this field with an original theoretical discussion.
